TIPTON STEREO VIEW OF SOLID SHOT IN TREE NEXT TO SHERFY HOUSE, GETTYSBURG

$150.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: P13342

Image is mounted on yellow stock. One edge is marked “ARTISTIC STEREO GEMS OF GETTYSBURG SCENERY” and the other states that the image is by W. H. Tipton.

The view was taken in the yard of the Sherfy house which stands across the Emmitsburg Road from the famous Peach Orchard. This is a close up of a cherry tree with a spherical shell or solid shot still embedded in its trunk. The tree stood on the north side of the building until it was cut down in the 1950’s or 60’s. The projectile is clearly visible in the Image as is the side of the Sherfy farm house which fills the background.

The view is number 1112 and is captioned “SHELL IN THE OLD CHERRY TREE AT SHERFY’S.”

The contrast of the image is good and the mount is mostly clean with only light surface dirt from age and storage. The card looks to be a little wider than normal.

Reverse is blank.
