View is taken looking north east from in front of Devil’s Den. The background of the image is dominated by Little Round Top and the “Valley of Death.” In the near foreground on a large boulder is the monument to the 4th Maine Infantry.
Paper image and mount are very dirty. Yellow stock border is chipped at two corners and along left edge. Image contrast is good.
Reverse has old period ink inscription that reads “VALLEY OF DEATH / L. R. TOP /#243”.
