This view is of Major General Winfield Scott Hancock being loaded into an ambulance, surrounded by his staff, after being wounded on the field at Gettysburg on July 3 1863. This card was produced in a series (Number 486) by the famous Gettysburg photographer W.H.TIPTON. during the 1880’s. While not an actual photograph, it is a sketched rendition of the event by the famous battlefield artist ALFRED R. WAUD. This card is in excellent condition without damages, but exhibits a light yellowish oxidized appearance.
