This souvenir desk set is not one of the ones made in the 1880’s or early 1900’s but is a 1950’s or 60’s attempt at a copy of one.
The stained cedar wood base meas. approx. 4.25 inches long x 3.00 inches wide x 1.00 inch high. Attached to the back center is a square inkwell minus the lid. The inkwell is made of glass with a decorative wave to the surface and is glued in place. Nailed to the four corners of the base around the inkwell are original dropped condition .58 minie balls with a .58 Confederate Gardner bullet nailed in front.
The wood base is cut with a beveled front for placement of a label or plaque but this was never applied.
Overall the item is in nice condition and shows little if any wear from age. Who made it or where it is from is not known.
