The items in this box were recovered in the area of Pickett’s Charge by the late Gettysburg resident John Cullison and passed by him to the Rosensteel Family Collection of Gettysburg artifacts. The Rosensteel family donated a large portion of their collection to the Gettysburg National Military Park when that organization bought their museum building. The pieces offered here are items that remained in the families’ possession until being released for sale several years ago.

 

The box contains the following:

Fragment of a 20-pd Parrott shell - nose section. Fragment meas. approx. 3.00 x 2.50 inches and is fairly thick. Collectors label on the box says that the only US 20 pound battery was Taft's Battery posted in Evergreen Cemetery.

Iron canister ball that meas. approx. 1.25 inches across

Nose fragment of a 3-inch Read shell that meas. approx. 1.50 x 1.50

Half of an artillery horse shoe

Iron grape shot fragment that meas. approx. 2.00 x 1.25 inches

2.75 inch lead sabot that displays firing marks

10 pound Parrott shell fragment that meas. approx. 3.00 x 1.00 inch

Top portion of a brass Hotchkiss fuse with threads

Three links of large iron artillery chain. Meas. approx. 6.00 inches long
