The items in this box were recovered in the area of Pickett’s Charge by the late Gettysburg resident John Cullison and passed by him to the Rosensteel Family Collection of Gettysburg artifacts. The Rosensteel family donated a large portion of their collection to the Gettysburg National Military Park when that organization bought their museum building. The pieces offered here are items that remained in the families’ possession until being released for sale several years ago.

 

The box contains the following:

A complete zinc Schenkl percussion fuse

Iron artillery chain of seven links that is approx. 6.00 inches long

Half of an artillery horseshoe

Iron CS grapeshot fragment approx. 2.00 inches across

Lead sabot that meas. 2.00 inches across and shows rifling marks

Brass upper section of a Hotchkiss fuse

2 shell fragments that meas. approx. 2.25 x 1.25 and 1.25 x 1.50

Iron canister ball that meas. approx. 1.00 inch across
