RELIC REMAINS OF MODEL 1855 BAYONET FROM GETTYSBURG

This relic consists of ¾ of the socket and 9.50 inches of the blade of a Model 1855 bayonet. The iron surfaces are completely rusted and there is iron loss on both the socket body and the blade edge. The rust has been stabilized and the relic lightly coated with a clear lacquer to prevent further decay.

This item was recovered from Rock Creek near the base of Culp’s Hill at Gettysburg.
