Image appears to date from the 1880’s to the early 1900’s. The view was taken just below the summit of Little Round Top looking northeast. The subject is the statue of Major General Gouverneur Kemble Warren who was the Chief Engineer of the Army of the Potomac during the battle of Gettysburg and who is credited with saving the hill for the Union army.
The foreground of the image is dominated by the large boulder on which the statue stands. The left flank marker of the 146th New York is visible in the right front foreground.
The image size is approx. 6.00 x 8.00 inches in size and has very good clarity and contrast. The image is mounted on heavy gray stock that meas. approx. 10.00 x 12.00 inches. The mount surfaces are clean with only minor wear around the edges.
The reverse of the image has an old ink inscription at upper left that reads “GETTYSBURG / STATUE OF GEN. WARREN / ON ‘LITTLE ROUND TOP.’ / PLATINUM PRINT”.
