TIPTON CABINET CARD IMAGE OF CIVIL WAR VETERANS ON LITTLE RPOUND TOP

$125.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 37-308

Image shows three old gents lounging on the summit of Little Round Top. Two are standing while one sits on a large boulder. All three are wearing heavy overcoats and hats and the two standing gentlemen are holding canes. A close inspection of the photo shows evidence that the canes are carved souvenir canes.

In the right background is the monument to the 91st Pennsylvania and the statue of General Warren while the middle background shows the fields of Pickett’s charge. The Pennsylvania Monument is not present in the background placing the image prior to 1910. The left background shows the Wheatfield Road, Valley of Death and the John Weickert Farm. In the foreground are the flank markers for the 91st Pennsylvania and the 140th New York.

The image is clean and clear with good contrast with a light background. The bottom of the mount has a faded title that reads “TIPTONS GETTYSBURG PHOTOGRAPH” with “W. TIPTON PHOTO” in lower left corner.

The reverse has a nice label of a mounted cavalryman with a printed note from Tipton about getting copies of the image. The back of the image is discolored from age.

Image and mount meas. approx. 9.25 x 7.75 inches.
