Unmounted, printed photograph dating approx. 1930’s – 1940’s of General Meade’s headquarters at Gettysburg. The photo was taken from a field in front of the house and looking northeast. The Taneytown Road runs unseen through the background.
Superimposed over the image in the foreground in white is “42-GEN. MEADE’S HEADQUARTERS.”
Image is clear with good contrast. There is some surface dirt visible in the area of the sky.
Reverse of archival sleeve has a printed label with information on the house being Meade’s Headquarters and being purchased by the GMBA (Gettysburg Memorial Battlefield Association), the first group to actively purchase and preserve areas of the battlefield. Information is copied from page 379 of “GETTYSBURG THEN AND NOW” by John Vanderslice.
