PARTIALLY LOADED RELIC REMINGTON REVOLVER WITH LETTER - RECOVERED AT GETTYSBURG

$2,250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 172-3584

Relic conditioned Remington revolver complete except for the wood grips, trigger, triggerguard and half of the loading lever. The octagon barrel, frame, hammer, cylinder and grip frame are all present. All metal surfaces are rusty and pitted but not flaking. The cylinder has at least two loaded chambers. The one chamber in line with the barrel cannot be seen. There is a serial number on the grip frame but it cannot be read.

The revolver comes mounted on a 14.50 x 26.50 inch modern frame that dates from about the 1960’s.

Also in this frame is a letter from well-known gun dealer Arnold Marcus Chernoff who was also a member of the Outdoor Writers Association, a member of The Company of Military Collectors and Historians, the Antique Arms editor for Guns & Ammo magazine and Antique Arms advisor for The Gun Report. The letter is typed on Mr. Chernoff’s stationery and is dated October 8, 1966. In the letter Mr. Chernoff states in part “ON A RECENT TRIP EAST, I STOPPED OFF IN GETTYSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA, AND IN MY QUEST FOR GUNS, FOUND THE PIECE YOU NOW OWN. IT HAD RECENTLY BEEN DUG UP ON A FARM THAT IS LOCATED RIGHT IN THE HEART OF THE BATTLEFIELD…” Mr. Chernoff goes on to explain that the revolver is still partially loaded and he assures the buyer that he has a good solid Gettysburg relic. This letter is very clear and readable. It comes in its own frame attached to the larger frame that holds the revolver.
