Top bar of the ribbon is made of stamped brass and meant to resemble a curtain rod with orbs at each end and rings along its length. Reverse still has the original pin.
Suspended from this bar is a solid blue ribbon that meas. approx. 2.50 inches wide by 5.75 inches long ending in a point with a gold bullion tassel. The face of the ribbon has gold lettering that reads “NEW YORK DAY AT GETTYSBURG JULY 1ST 2ND 3RD 1863----1893 150TH REGT. N. Y. VOL. LOCKWOOD’S BRIGADE 1ST DIV. 12TH CORPS.”
Some of the gold to the lettering has faded with age and storage. The upper portion has two minor stress separations and the center of the upper portion looks to have a light stain otherwise the ribbon is in nice condition. Bullion tassel has darkened with age.
The 150th New York was raised in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. in October of 1862 and was originally assigned to the Middle Department’s 8th Corps where it did duty in Baltimore until June of 1863 when it joined the 12th Corps of the Army of the Potomac. The regiment fought at Gettysburg and then moved west with its Corps. They saw further action as part of the 20th Corps in Sherman’s army at Resaca, New Hope Church, Marietta, Kennesaw Mountain, Peachtree Creek, Atlanta, Sherman’s March to the Sea, Savannah, Fayetteville, Averysboro and Bentonville. The regiment was mustered out on June 8, 1865 after losing 5 officers and 127 enlisted men killed, mortally wounded or died of disease plus another 168 wounded or captured.
Regimentally marked ribbons from the smaller Gettysburg gatherings are rare.
