This relic saber was found on East Cavalry Field at Gettysburg and for years was part of the collection of GAR Post 120 in Washington, Pa.
Overall the saber meas. approx. 32.75 inches long. The item is rusted throughout with heavy pitting. Blade is complete for about 26.50 inches before reaching the break. There is no scabbard but the scabbard throat remains just below the brass guard.
The hilt retains the blade tang with brass pommel cap attached with knucklebow and guard. All parts are tight.
Great relic of the heavy cavalry battle of July 3, 1863.
