Black and white image mounted on cream colored stock. Mount meas. approx. 10.00 x 12.00 inches and is in good condition with light surface dirt throughout. Bottom of mount is marked “M. F. WILLIAMS / NATIONAL PARK PHOTOGRAPHER / GETTYSBURG, PA.”
Image meas. approx. 9.25 x 7.50 inches and shows a group of approx. 22 men arranged in two rows in front of the equestrian statue of Major General John Fulton Reynolds on the First Days battlefield at Gettysburg. Contrast is a bit light but all details are clear. The view is looking east with the photographer’s back to Route 30 west of town.
The immediate background of the image shows the field over which the 147th New York advanced, fought and retreated over on July 1, 1863. The right distant background shows Oak Hill where the Eternal Light Peace Monument now stands and where Rhodes Confederate Division formed for its attack on July 1st.
None of the men in the image appear to be veterans.
Reverse is blank except for some pencil marks along one edge and some surface dirt.
