$20.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 819-19

This large iron harness buckle (2 ½” x 2”) was once part of the famous Rosensteel Collection of Gettysburg. This specific item was with a group that was identified with an old paper label that indicated that they were found by “Monroe”, probably a reference to Lawrence Monroe.

The label does not accompany purchase; a photocopy was provided to us by from the sale listing that the previous owner purchased it from. John Rosensteel opened his Round Top Museum of Gettysburg artifacts in 1888. The collection which grew in size as a variety of local collections were acquired (including artifacts recovered by Lawrence Monroe), was the nucleus of the Electric Map Museum collection and ultimately the Gettysburg National Military park collection. A 1964 advertisement for the Electric Map museum notes that the Monroe collection is part of its holdings.
