This is a beautiful excavated belt plate. Pattern 1839 belt buckle with puppy-paw hooks. Beautiful brown face with the letters “US” boldly standing out. Complete edge all the way around and complete lead on back. Reverse has some light corrosion and no maker’s mark.  Some small dings are present on edges of buckle. Surface dirt is present. Recovered from Cemetery Hill in Gettysburg, PA.
