Top of cane has a CS .577 caliber Enfield bullet embedded in the center of the wood. Written in ink near bullet is, “Culp’s Hill”. Top of cane measures 3 ¼” and is approx. 1 ½” at the widest section.
In the shaft of the cane is a Stanhope view of three areas of the battlefield: Soldier’s National Cemetery Monument, Hancock Monument looking south, and a view of the National Cemetery. Most of each of the views is visible; top section has some water stains, which is common in Stanhopes.
Stamped into the shaft of the cane is “Gettysburg / July 1, 2, 3 / Wood from / ________”; last part is not readable. Cane measures overall 35 ¾” long.
