Fairfield, Pennsylvania sits approx. 8 miles west of Gettysburg and was the site of a cavalry action on July 3, 1863. Cavalry were also in the area in 1862 and 1864.
Saddle shield is made of brass and meas. approx. 1.50 inches across the top and is approx. 2.00 inches tall. Face has nice smooth patina. The only visible marking is a number “2” near center. Shield is complete except for upper right corner. Hardly ever see relics from this battlefield which was part of the Gettysburg Campaign. [ad]
