Fairfield, Pennsylvania sits approx. 8 miles west of Gettysburg and was the site of a cavalry action on July 3, 1863. Cavalry were also in the area in 1862 and 1864.

Saddle shield is made of brass and meas. approx. 1.50 inches across the top and is approx. 1.50 inches tall. Shield is missing the top section. Face has nice smooth patina and is marked in two lines reading horizontally “AKM / CO. D.”

Relics from this battlefield, which was part of the Gettysburg Campaign, are seldom encountered.  [ad]
