Quarterly camp and garrison equipment return for the 1st Massachusetts Infantry Regiment for December 1863. Document is pre-printed and filled out legibly in ink. Signed by 1st Lieutenant Charles E. Mudge.
Mudge was a 23 year old bookkeeper living in Boston when he was commissioned a1st Lieutenant in Company I. He was appointed Adjutant on April 25, 1864 and was wounded at Gettysburg on July 3, 1863. He was mustered out on May 28, 1864.
After the war he was a member of the Edward W. Kinsely GAR Post #113 in Boston. He died on July 13, 1892. [ad]
