Volume is hardcover and meas. approx. 6.50 x 9.75 inches. Stippled cloth covers are dark green with embossed spread-winged eagle surrounded by the embossed title “SOLDIERS NATIONAL CEMETERY GETTTYSBURG.” Title is also embossed on spine in large gold lettering. Boards have light surface dirt and rubbed edges. Cloth is beginning to separate in area between spine and front cover. Volume runs approx. 212 pages.

Interior is clean and tight. Folding map is present. Inside front and back covers have numerous rubbings of an 1863 Indian head penny. Back side of front cover has an old bookplate from 1867 with previous owner’s name. Below the plate is a stamped name “J. L. KISTLER / No. 132” which matches the name on the bookplate. Written in pencil on first blank page is a period pencil notation that reads “PRSENTED TO J. L. KISTLER BY / JOHN ALLEMAN /  SELINS GROVE / SNYDER, CO. / PA. / DEC. 4TH 1867.” Below this inscription is a large bold ink inscription of “JESSIE G. MYERS / GETTYSBURG.” Pages have light scattered foxing throughout.

Research shows that Mr. Kistler attended Gettysburg College then known as Pennsylvania College. Jessie Myers was born in 1872 and lived in Gettysburg throughout her life. She died in 1964 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.  [AD]
