Excavated U.S. pattern cartridge box plate. The brass skin is complete with no dents and only a 1” long scratch that runs through the “S”. The face has a nice, uniform brown/green patina. The face exhibits good detail and contrast. The lead backing is mostly intact with only minor loss near the edge. Both of the iron loops remain intact.

This piece was recovered in the 1950s-60s from the woods near the General Sedgwick Monument and was once part of the Iva Rosensteel collection. Mrs. Rosensteel is the sister of George Rosensteel, who started the Electric Map museum in Gettysburg. Eventually, it became a part of the Rider collection in Gettysburg, which remained in the family until The Horse Soldier purchased the collection in June 2016. [jet]
