This single excavated relic of horse equipment was recovered from the East Cavalry Battlefield at Gettysburg in 1984. Of medium size, this unmarked relic is made of iron and shows moderate to heavy rust erosion overall. Entire device has been coated with a clear sealant for protection. The shanks are unbent and terminate onto a flat, oval footpad that has an elongated open base. Artifact measures 4¾” high with a 3½” width. This stirrup exhibits heavy surface rust.
