Scarce, excavated 10-pounder Confederate Read-Parrott side-loader case shot shell. These were fired from 3-inch rifled cannons. Cast-iron shell with lathe lug, copper fuse adapter and sabot, lead side plug, and “dimple” in the center of the base. Weighs 10 pounds, 5 ounces. Moderate pitting in the iron. Shell was heavily cleaned and coated long ago. Recovered along Rock Creek here at Gettysburg. A very rare artillery shell. [jet]
