Excavated zinc U.S. Schenkl combination time and percussion fuse. Relic is in very nice “dug” condition. The fuse is split from the bottom along the timing holes. Threads are in decent shape, some of the numbers are still visible, and the thin copper strip is still present on top. Measures approximately 3 3/4” long.
This piece was recovered in the 1950s-60s in the woods south of the Virginia Monument. This relic was once part of the Iva Rosensteel collection. Mrs. Rosensteel is the sister of George Rosensteel, who started the Electric Map museum in Gettysburg. Eventually, it became a part of the Rider collection in Gettysburg, which remained in the family until The Horse Soldier purchased the collection in June 2016. [jet]
