This is a .58 caliber, 3-groove “minie” that was fired and struck a tree. Remaining portion of wood is only slightly larger than the bullet itself. Remaining wood is solid. Recovered in the 1960s, in woods west of Big Round Top parking lot on Second Days’ Battlefield at Gettysburg.
This relic was once part of the Iva Rosensteel collection. Mrs. Rosensteel is the sister of George Rosensteel, who started the Electric Map museum in Gettysburg. Eventually, it became a part of the Rider collection in Gettysburg, which remained in the family until The Horse Soldier purchased the collection in June 2016. [jet]
