Leather scabbard is in good condition. The black leather body shows only light wear and no weak spots. Some minor scuffs and chips to the finish. Brass finial has several dents but is still firmly attached and has a dark patina. Scabbard frog shows the most wear with most of the finish worn off. It is the two-rivet variety. An old paper tag is glued around the throat of the scabbard. The label has aged to such a dark color it is hard to distinguish the paper from the leather. Perhaps from being in a smoky old G.A.R. hall. The writing on the label was done in black ink which, with some scuffing, paper loss, and the darkening of the paper itself, allows for only partial reading. On the left half of the tag can be read, “This […] / was […] / Battle[…] / Gettys[…]”.  Only random letters can made out on rest of tag.

The Model 1855 bayonet itself is what you would expect of a battlefield pick-up. It is a dark brown color with scattered, fine surface rust overall. Locking ring is perfect. Clearly stamped “US” on the blade flat.
