This plate, a Gettysburg Campaign related piece, is complete but shows major wear from sitting in the ground for 140+ years. The “CS” on the face is a little faint but visible. The whole surface of the face is covered with a dirt-like grime. The left side of the plate has a slight curl that gets more severe near the bottom. In this area there is a 1inch section where the edge is curled over on the face. Likewise, the upper right of the plate has a 1½ section where the edge has curled backwards. This has happened because over the years of being in the ground some of the lead along the edges has corroded away. The back of the plate still has 65%-75% of the lead. Hooks are gone. This plate comes with a letter from the man who dug it saying when it was found and where. He also states that Ewell’s Corps used the area as a campsite.
