This is an excavated Civil War soldier’s cuff or vest button. Good detail, complete shank, remnants of gilt highlighting the eagle motif, Horstmann back mark. Beautiful brown patina.

This was recovered from the Peach Orchard at Gettysburg by local resident John Cullison, who excavated relics on the field from 1935-1959. Cullison sold his collection to the famed Gettysburg Rosensteel family, who held the primary collection of Gettysburg artifacts.  [jet]
