This is a large format steel engraving commissioned by John Bachelder. The engraving mimics the Pickett’s Charge portion of the famous cyclorama painting. This large engraving is matted and in an old wood frame. The overall size is 24 ½” x 43 ½”. The actual image is 14” x 35”. The old frame is dark brown and features stamped brass details in the corners. There is minor chipping in spots on the edges. The engraving is highly detailed and is in excellent condition. No stains or tears.

The accompanying 80-page booklet is truly a rare find. The inside title page reads, “The Story of the Battle of Gettysburg and Description of the Painting of the Repulse of Longstreet’s Assault By James Walker and of the Steel Engraving From It by H.B. Hall, jr. Historical Arrangement and Description by John B. Bachelder, A.M.”  This booklet is complete with its tip-out diagram of the engraving and key that points out significant people and places. The pages and illustrations throughout this text are clean and in great condition. The covers display some staining and typical “handling”. The back cover features a bust image of President Lincoln and the text of the Gettysburg Address. Hand pasted under Lincoln’s image is another small label added at a later date. Booklet is copyrighted 1904 and measures 6 ½” x 9 ½”.

A beautiful steel engraving of Pickett’s Charge with its rarely seen accompanying booklet.
