Standard issue Model 1855 bayonet in fair relic condition. The socket and locking ring are pitted but the ring works. All surfaces are dark and the blade shows some light pitting. Blade flat has a stamped “U” but the “S” has worn off. Below this mark is a smaller sub-inspectors “S” mark.
This item comes from the collection of Mr. T. R. Brown, who was the first Commissioner of the Gettysburg National Cemetery. He did serve during the war but unfortunately there were too many T.R. Browns who served to pin down what regiment he served in. [ad]
