Item consists of a piece of oak wood that meas. approx. 4.00 x 2.50 x 2.00 inches. Visible at top is a fully embedded fired bullet and next to it is a square glass inkwell with a circular brass cap set into the wood. Across the front is hand painted “GETTYSBURG PA.”
The underside of the piece has some of the original tree bark as well as a museum collection number.
This item is from the Lebanon, Pennsylvania Sedgwick Post #42 of the GAR which was full of Danner related artifacts. This is the first Danner item we have seen with the painted “GETTYSBURG PA” inscription.
Item is in first class museum condition and dates from about 1870-1894 making it an early Gettysburg souvenir. [ad]
