Photo was taken from the summit of Little Round Top and is looking northwest. Image looks to be from the late 19^th or early 20^th Century.

Visible in the foreground are the stone breastworks on Little Round Top and in the middle distance is trolley line that ran along the base of the hill. Visible just beyond the trolley line is Plum Run. West of the run is the “rocky hill” that borders The Wheatfield. This area was assaulted by the Irish Brigade and the US Regulars on July 2^nd and to the right of it is the area charged over by the Pennsylvania Reserves late on the 2^nd. The Wheatfield is just beyond the small hill with several of the monuments placed there visible. The Wheatfield Road runs along the right edge of the view. The Peach Orchard and Emmitsburg Road is visible in the distance and in the far distance is the South Mountain Range. There are also several farms visible.

Written in period ink in the lower right hand corner of the image is “LOOKING FROM ROUND TOP TO THE WHEATFIELD.”

The image is sharp and clear. There are several small white spots in the distant background that could have been made by dust on the negative. Image is matted to a 8.75 x 7.00 inches. Mat is tan over brown. Brown wood fame is modern and meas. approx. 16.75 x 14.50 inches. Frame and mat are in excellent condition.  [AD]
