Here is an early souvenir walking cane made of wood taken from the famous Gettysburg battlefield area of Culp’s Hill. This very slender wooden cane measures about 34" long with a handle formed by a 90-degree turn, then extending 3” in that direction. The handle area retains a covering of the original bark. The entire surface length of the cane appears to been sanded smooth. It was then decorated with multiple wavy designs effected by lightly burning the surface. Below the handle on one side is “CULPS HILL” boldly outlined, burnt into the cane. A small brass cap tips the bottom of the cane.
This Gettysburg souvenir wood cane is in very good condition with no cracks, with moderate chipping to the bark at the handle. [jet]
