Very nice clean shell. The exterior is smooth with virtually no pitting causing one to assume it was an early pick up. The fuse is missing but the threads are in good condition. The iron sabot is 50% intact and shows signs of rifling.
A previous owner said he “got it from Butt’s Diner” but it is not clear if he dug it there on their property or if perhaps the diner was selling relics. Butt’s Restaurant opened on York St. in Gettysburg in about 1938 and Butt’s Diner opened on Buford Ave in 1942. The restaurant and diner changed hands or closed in the late 1950’s. [AD]
