This document is an invoice of Ordnance and Ordnance stores turned over by Lieut. J.M. Rorty at Falmouth to Capt. R.D. Petitt, Commander of Battery “B”, 1st NY Artillery. Items include spur straps, artillery blankets, coupling reins, lanterns and rounds of shot for ten pound Parrott guns. Document is dated March 4, 1863, was filled out and signed by Rorty.

James McKay Rorty enlisted at the age of 24 on 10/22/1861 at New York City, NY as a 2nd Lieutenant. On 11/17/1861 he was commissioned into "D" Co. NY 2nd Light Artillery He was transferred out on 12/21/1861 (2nd LA known afterward as 14th LA). On 12/21/1861 he transferred into NY 14th Light Artillery. He was transferred out on 5/30/1863 (Estimated date of transfer). On 5/30/1863 he transferred into "Batty B" Co. NY 1st Light Artillery. He was killed on 7/2/1863 at Gettysburg, PA. He received the following promotions: 1st Lieut. 10/31/1862, Capt. 4/27/1863. He also had prior service in 69th NY Infantry.  Rorty is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, NY.  [ld]
