Two-piece medal features a brass top hangar in the shape of a spread-winged eagle perched on crossed cannons. Original pin is present on reverse.
Suspended from hangar is a round medal with a raised image of a laurel wreath. Lettering reads, “G.A.R. ENCAMPMENT AT GETTYSBURG PA / DEDICATION OF MONUMENTS IN JULY 1886”. Reverse of medal shows a raised image of the G.A.R. star.
Measures 2 3/8” long by 1 ½” wide. [sl]

This musket is stamped “42. VA. REGT. PITTSYLVANIA” on the barrel, was later altered to percussion and then shortened for use in the civilian market. It is a scarce survivor from muskets delivered to Virginia by Jame Swan of Boston in January… (1000-241). Learn More »
