BRASS 1913 GETTYSBURG FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY SOUVENIR BADGE

$175.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1054-437

The pin and hook are in place on the upper bar of this two-piece badge, from which the lower planchet is suspended by two small rings. The pinbar has simple scrolled and floral elements and reads simply “souvenir” in an arc. The planchet has a nicely executed American eagle standing on a US shield with a panoply of stars and stripes flags behind and an array of stars surrounding it and filling out the upper half of the disk. The face is marked in raised lettering, “50th Anniversary” at top, with the date 1913 split on either edge, and “battle of Gettysburg” along the lower edge. Facing portraits of Meade and Lee are helpfully captioned “G. Meade” and “R.E. Lee.” Below them a pair of clasped hands expresses the idea of peace and, presumably, unity.  [sr]
