Item is a stack of three .54 Burnside carbine cartridge cases stacked one inside the other. This was often done to more easily remove the spent casing from the carbine.

Cases have a nice green patina and are solid. Comes with a modern label stating that the casings were recovered at Gettysburg.  [AD]
