$225.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1054-2498

Recovered on East Cavalry Field. Spur is in good relic condition with light surface rust and pitting. It shows a nice brown patina. Rowel is present but does not move. This style has no groove but does have the floral motif at the base of the neck. Leather strap shows light crazing and is dry and stiff in areas. Iron buckle is present.

This relic was once part of the Lee’s Headquarters Museum in Gettysburg. Lee used the house of widow Mary Thompson, on the north side of Chambersburg Road (US 30) on Seminary Ridge on the west side of Gettysburg. In 1921 the house became the General Lee’s Headquarters Museum. A campground and tourist cabins were added. As time went on the museum became the center of a thriving complex that would eventually include a popular restaurant and motel. Today the house has been restored by the Civil War Trust to its appearance at the time of the Battle of Gettysburg. Several interpretive markers tell the story of the house, the land, the people and their history.  [sl]
