This excavated Pattern 1839 oval US cartridge box plate has a smooth brown patina. The brass face has central “US” with a few dings.  The plate’s reverse has 100% of the lead fill. The two iron loops have rusted off. This relic was recovered at Cemetery Hill in Gettysburg.  An original “dug” Civil War enlistedman’s cartridge box plate from John Graham collection.   [jet]
