Gettysburg battlefield stereoview, looking from the summit of Little Round Top towards the Slaughter Pen and Wheatfield. The ink stamped caption is barely discernable but “Spur” is visible, likely captioned as “[View from Granite] Spur.” Dominating the foreground are two cannon mounted upon early reproduction carriages and the original 91st Pennsylvania Monument. This monument honors Brigadier General Steven Weed and Lieutenant Charles Hazlett who both died in the defense of Little Round Top.
No photographer markings are visible; however, it resembles the style of William Tipton. The top 1/3 of the photos exhibit fading and light staining; however, features in the Slaughter Pen area remain distinctive. The backside also has light staining and is ink stamped “Ella Newton.” The cardstock is firm with some wear at the corners and is slightly bowed at the center. [JC]
