EARLY VIEW OF HANCOCK AVENUE ON THE GETTYSBURG BATTLEFIELD

$75.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 846-213

View is taken from the tower that once stood near the Meade monument and is looking south toward the Round Tops. View was taken prior to 1910 as the Pennsylvania Monument has not yet been erected.

The equestrian statue of General Meade is visible along the left edge. The right edge has the 1st Delaware and 125th New York monuments bracketing Hancock Ave as it runs south toward the Round Tops. Everything between those two points stretching south and south west is visible for miles. The clump of trees ate the angle are prominent and many monuments are visible and too many to list.

Image is clear. The contrast is good but the image does get a bit hazy in the distance. There is a small white spot of discoloration near the right edge. Image size is 7.00 x 4.50 and is mounted on heavy white stock that meas. 9.00 x 7.00 inches. Stock has moderate surface dirt.

Reverse has a period ink inscription that reads “HANCOCK AVENUE LOOKING TO THE ROUND TOPS SHOWING GEN. MEADE STATUE, HIGH WATER MARK, THE BLODDY ANGEL + WHEATFIELD.”  [ad]
