Here is a wonderful photograph of the “Pickett’s Charge” area of the Gettysburg Military Park in 1917. At this time the U.S. Army was preparing itself for entry into World War 1.  The framed image measures 43” x 10” overall.  Original narrow wood frame shows some minor scuffs.  Image is under glass and backed by cardboard. Image was recorded from the observation deck of the Pennsylvania Memorial providing an good elevated view of both the battlefield and the camps.  The scene is mostly filled with tents and stables, but also visible are small squads of soldiers drilling, horses, railroad tracks running through battlefield, and monuments. Of special interest are small notations added that point out several different regimental camps: 4th, 58th, 59th, 61st, and “P. Batallion”.  Captioned at bottom of image is “U.S. Army Mobilization Camp / Gettysburg National Military Park, 1917” and “Tipton photo. Gettysburg, Pa.”  Nice clear image with good contrast.  [jet]
