This fuse adapter shows only a very small nick or two from being fired and has an even dark green patina. This specimen was recovered from “N.E. of A. Trostle farm” as marked on a masking tape label with old ball point pen. Some damage to tape/label by threads.

This is the long pattern fuse adapter for use in rifled artillery shells. The longer fuse allowed for longer burn times to cover the distances the rifled cannons could shoot. These replaced older wood fuse adapters in the Spring of 1863 and continued to be used to the end of the war. This one has the small hole through the bottom that was used in case shot-filled shells.

These adapters were cast and then turned on a lathe. This one is threaded with the typical 12 threads per inch. A central hole was drilled out to accept the paper time fuse. All featured a flanged head with two spanner holes. This specimen measures 1.84” long x 1.28” across the flange.   [jet]
