On June 30, 1863 during its approach march to Gettysburg, the Union 2nd Corps camped at Taneytown, Maryland. Over the years this camp has yielded many relics including the coin offered here. The coin is in good dug condition.

Three cent coin with a six-pointed star with a patriotic shield at center surrounded by “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” at top over a date of “1853 on the obverse. Reverse has “III” at the center of a stylized letter “C” surrounded by 13 stars. Coin has a slight waviness to it.  [ad]
