On June 30, 1863 during its approach march to Gettysburg, the Union 2nd Corps camped at Taneytown, Maryland. Over the years this camp has yielded many relics including the coin offered here. The coin is in good dug condition.
Five cent coin with a seated Lady Liberty surrounded by 13 stars over the date of “1853” flanked by arrowheads on the obverse. Reverse has “HALF DIME” at the center of a laurel wreath with “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.” [ad]
