C. 1880’S image which is affixed to a heavy 11” x 14” mount, with the image being just slightly smaller.  Mount is slightly curved and image has yellowed somewhat with age.  Minor corner and edge wear, otherwise in fine, clean condition. Photographer’s logo stamped on reverse: “Tipton / Photo. / Gettysburg, Pa.”

The monument to the 27th Indiana Infantry Volunteer Regiment is on Colgrove Avenue near Spangler's Spring.  It was dedicated in October of 1885 by the State of Indiana. The monument overlooks Spangler's Meadow where the regiment charged against Confederate positions on the lower crest of Culp's Hill.The 27th Indiana was commanded at the Battle of Gettysburg by Colonel Silas Colgrove. He took command of the brigade on July 2nd, and Lieutenant Colonel John R. Fesler then took over the regiment.
