Research has found a Lieutenant Alexander Johnston with the 1^st Ohio Infantry Infantry, an Army of Ohio unit, which fought at the Battle of Shiloh only on April 7, 1862. There is every reason to believe that this is Lt. Johnston’s book, which accompanied him through the hard fighting of that day. Invites further research.
