All leather has been treated with a leather dressing compound by previous owner. Group consists of the following:

Cap box- standard issue cap box in good condition. Both belt loops present on the back. No fleece or pick. Light wear overall.

Enlisted mans waist belt- Standard issue belt with brass keeper and oval SNY belt plate with "puppy-paw" style posts. Belt is in good condition. Belt plate has slight bend on edge near "y" and face has nice patina.

Model 1855 bayonet and scabbard- Seven rivet scabbard with sub-inspecteor's mark on frog. Light vergetis around rivets. Frog has 1.50 inch tear on one side. Scabbard has small area about an inch long where thread has rotted. Scabbard tip is present but very bottom of it is missing. Bayonet is standard issue and in good condition.

Cartridge box-late war 1864 box with embossed US. Tins are missing otherwise very nice. Shows wear from use. US on box lid a little light.

Items come with 1880's GAR hall type sign that reads "Worn by J. W. Hobert during his 2nd service from 63 to 65 in Battery C, 3rd NY Light Artillery."

Josiah W. Hobert served in Company D, 3rd New York Infantry from May 14, 1861 till the expiration of his service in May of 1863. He joined Battery C, 3rd NY Light Artillery on August 21, 1863 and served till discharged in July of 1865. It was during this second term of service that the leather gear here offered for sale was used. The majority of Mr. Hoberts service was in South Carolina.
